We are a small rural church but we are not oblivious to the state of the Church, the state of the World, the deterioration of the family, and the alarming rate in which our children and youth are not returning to the church after they turn 18, and we are concerned.

We are so concerned that we’re attempting something radical. Sometimes when the situation seems dire, radical steps are necessary. God has provided us an opportunity to rethink how we do ministry. So, unlike most churches, you won’t find on our “Ministries” menu a list of labels like, Children, Youth, Adult, or Senior, that divide our church family into various age groups.

“If you use Scripture as the basis for the church, we would never end up with what we call youth ministry”

It’s interesting all through the Bible there are no age segregated churches. Today’s churches seem to have gone with a different pattern to follow. Could the current methods of youth ministry be turning our attention from our real duty, and giving us an easy alternative for disobedience? Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, Scripture teaches that parents are to communicate truth to our children. Could the age segregated church be usurping the authority, knowledge, and wisdom of the generations? What about those who come from broken families?

At FBC, we’re going to try something a little different… We don’t know how it will turn out but we trust God who placed this on our hearts. Earlier, we called what we’re attempting “radical steps” but maybe it’s just returning to an old method in a fresh new way.
