First Baptist Church is excited about launching a new ministry called Three Nails Cycling. Three Nails Cycling was created and led by Pastor Tim at his church in Omaha and is hoping to create a similar ministry here in Valentine. What’s Three Nails Cycling do? Well, it is a multi-faceted ministry that sponsors free cycling events for the entire community. Some examples are bicycle rodeos for kids to promote safety; weekly fellowship rides around town that include supporting various local businesses, such as for coffee or ice cream; rides for causes such as collecting for the food pantry or a winter coat ride; and a community bike shop where used donated bikes are accepted and refurbished.
The bike shop will function primarily as a mentoring program that teaches basic bike maintenance and repair where kids who may not have bikes can, through “earned equity,” restore a bike that becomes theirs when finished. If you have used bikes and you would like to donate them to the ministry, please email the church at admin@fbcvalentine.com. Anyone interested in getting a child into the mentoring program should contact pastortim@fbcvalentine.com for more details.
Of course, as a faith-based ministry, all activities of Three Nails Cycling will be gospel-centered and focus on building healthy relationships while at the same time taking advantage of the health and wellness benefits of cycling.
To launch the ministry here in Valentine, First Baptist Church, with support from the Valentine Police Department and the Niobrara Council, is hosting a free Bike Rodeo for kids ages 4-11 on Saturday, Jun 10th at 10am at the Valentine Elementary school parking lot. The event includes a bike safety and fit check, helmet giveaways, a safety briefing, snacks and drinks, and Kids are encouraged to bring their bikes to test their bike handling skills on a skills challenge course.
Not to leave the adults out, weekly fellowship rides for adults and families will begin on Friday, Jun 2nd, at 6:30pm starting from the First Baptist Church parking lot. These rides will be slower paced, (nobody left behind), staying mainly on the trails and side streets around town…perfect for the casual rider looking to connect with new people.
Pastor Tim says, we are looking forward to a fun filled summer and if you see us out and about on our bikes, be sure to wave! …or better yet, pull that bike out of the back of the garage, dust it off, put some air in the tires, and come join us!
